2. Design solutions
Terminal facilities are divided into 5 main areas:
ŕ. Registration, ticket counters, waiting room
b. Commerce area
c. Public and personnel restroom area
d. Service and luggage handling area
e. Platform exit pavilion
f. Passage between the terminal and the railway station facilities
The access to the terminal is provided through two main stairways, “exterior” and “interior”, from the railway station lobbies, and from the underground pedestrian crosswalk on to the stairway from the commerce area towards the street. One of the main stairways (“internal”) opens directly into the passenger registration area and has a bay equipped with a warm air screen; another (“external”) opens into the passage between the terminal and the railway station facilities. The passage is separated from the terminal by the stained glass partition, which has 3 entrances: two by the “external” stairway and one in the central part of the registration area. The entrances are equipped with automatic sliding doors.
The registration area contains 16 registration counters arranged in a single file. A large open area is provided in front of the counters to accommodate passenger lines. The entrance from the “internal” stairway opens directly into the area. Next to this entrance, information and administrator’s counters are located. In the middle of the area, waiting seats and airline ticket counters are located. Other airline ticket counters and a luggage packing station are located along the perimeter, the stained glass partition, and the solid wall.
In the central part of the terminal, at the passage between the registration area and the commerce area, a cafeteria is situated. It has a streamlined layout shaped by bow-like stained glass partitions. This solution allows creating an expressive central element of the design, which unites main terminal zones.
Next to the “external” stairway entrance, 10 railway ticket counters are located. Between the counters and the stained glass partition, an open space for passenger lines is provided, which allows free passage of passengers from the stairway into the terminal. Along the way towards the exit to the platform, the commerce area is located, which is connected to the area of public restrooms.
The commerce area is connected to the platform exit via a hallway separated by the bay. Adjacent to the platform exit are the service and luggage handling areas. The platform exit is equipped with a two-paced stairway, travelator and two lifts. The travelator is located along the platform’s central axis; it is 1-m wide and has a 10-degree inclination. To the left, a luggage cart lift is located, to the right – a stairway and a second cart lift.
The above-the-ground part of the platform exit is built as a glass pavilion, which covers the travelator and a part of the platform.
3. Finish materials.
The ceilings of the registration area, the commerce area, the cafeteria and the passage are identical and are built of acoustic panels and Alucobond composite material. The ceilings in other facilities are built of Armstrong modules.
